JUST A FRIEND SHE WAS

She had danced the dance
She had sang the song
She had done it all
She hovered around him like a bee
It seemed like he didn’t see her

She really tried her best
She had ignored the rest
She even became his best friend
They took walks together
But he never really saw her

She laughed at his silly jokes
She cried with him
And dodged his naughty pokes
She clad herself in beautiful clothes
But still he dashed her hopes

How was she to tell him?
She knew what she wanted
And by these thoughts she was hunted
But still she stayed
Unwavering her love and loyalty was

Her company was like a soft cushion
Comforting and motherly
She was patient and unchallenging
Respectful and simple
His life she made orderly

Just a whimper
And she would come running
Loyal and true to him she was
Her love could make one joyful
But still she was just a friend

He had eyes for another
Another who never cared
A beautiful damsel so fair
Hard to get and rare
A sweet challenge he loved

He felt so hurt
He shared his pain
And there she was again
In her arms he found sweet bliss
But just a friend she was
