We run to you for safety
And even though we have sinned
Despite our filth
Despite our guilt
Despite the fact that we repeatedly ignore you
Push you out of our lives
Indulge in carnal chaos
Fraternize with evil
Satisfy our thirsty flesh
And bruise our fragile hearts
Despite our shame and evil thoughts
Despite the greed
Despite our evil deeds
Despite our unfaithfulness and wickedness
You take us back
You embrace us
You give us a place of solace
A place to be washed and cleansed
A place of love and peace
You do so much for us
And even when we try to slip away again
You leave the door open for us to come back
You never shut that door!
It’s always open
And like the prodigal son, we return
Just in time for a warm shower
A hot bath
A hot bowl of soup
A table filled with food
A crew to entertain our troubled minds
A jar to carry our sins and shame away
You take us back always
We reach out to you always
Safety we find in your arms
Peace we find in your presence
To worship you and be with you forever
You take us back always!
